ClearFrame FAQ — Agents, pricing, privacy and recovery
What people ask before adopting an agentic coding tool, answered with the limits included.

Short answers to the questions that come up before adopting an agentic coding tool. Each answer states the limit or the caveat rather than only the benefit, because the caveats are what decide whether a tool fits.
What is ClearFrame?
ClearFrame is a desktop workspace for autonomous coding agents. You set a goal, agents build in isolated copies of your project, and you review and integrate the result. Active tasks keep their goals across app restarts, a live preview runs beside the conversation, and built-in checkpoints let you restore files whether or not the project uses Git.
Is ClearFrame free to use?
Yes. Free is for your first real project: use agents, preview the result, and review changes with a one-time included AI allowance. Pro is $20 per month for continuing work, with included AI use that renews monthly and supported provider connections. Usage limits apply to both. No credit card is required to start.
Are Power, Team and Enterprise available?
Power is planned at $100 per month for frequent individual agent work. Team is planned under one subscription with central billing: Standard seats at $25 per seat per month include Pro features and their own renewing included AI use; Power seats at $125 per seat per month are for frequent hosted agent work. Team use does not draw from a member’s personal plan. Usage limits apply. Power and Team checkout is closed; ask about joining while we finish testing the new plans. Enterprise is a tailored arrangement: send your organization, expected seats and needs through the inquiry form to start a conversation. No security or deployment capability is promised before it is agreed.
Can a connected AI provider bill me separately?
Yes. Included ClearFrame AI use is subject to your plan limits. When you connect a personal provider account or API key, that provider can apply its own usage limits or charges under its terms. Your ClearFrame account shows the remaining included use as a percentage and its reset date, and the app shows an additional estimate before remote execution where that feature is available.
Which AI models and providers does ClearFrame support?
ClearFrame ships a native catalog of 40 provider integrations, so you can choose the models you already pay for instead of being locked to one vendor. Supported account sign-ins include ChatGPT and Claude subscriptions as well as Claude and Gemini APIs. Availability and authentication vary by provider, and provider terms and usage limits still apply.
Can I recover files if an agent makes a change I do not want?
Yes. ClearFrame snapshots eligible project files before a task first uses a tool, independently of Git, so you can review and restore selected files even before a project is version controlled. Review covers manual and terminal changes to those files, and restoring selected files saves a "Before undo" checkpoint. Generated and dependency folders, external files and external services are excluded, and snapshot limits apply (30,000 files or 512 MiB).
How is ClearFrame different from Cursor, Claude Code or Codex?
ClearFrame is built around choosing your own AI and keeping a way back. It connects both ChatGPT and Claude subscriptions in one workspace, connects Claude and Gemini APIs natively, recovers manual and agent edits without Git, and keeps project memory in an inspectable panel. Cursor focuses on its own model set and editor, Claude Code is Claude-focused, and Codex custom providers use the OpenAI Responses protocol. A full, sourced comparison is published at clearframecode.com/alternatives/.
Can I put a limit on how much autonomous work is allowed to spend?
Yes. The Active panel lets you set a usage stop for unattended work and shows remaining included use as a percentage. Your account shows when it renews. Stops are measured, so work already in flight can still consume use. Connected provider accounts may bill separately under their own terms.
Which platforms can I run ClearFrame on?
ClearFrame and its CLI are available for Apple silicon Mac. Join the Intel Mac, Windows, Linux, phone and web waitlists for an email when access opens.
Does ClearFrame upload my source code anywhere?
ClearFrame does not upload local project files automatically. Local agents work in isolated copies on your machine. Where remote execution is enabled, it runs in a separate workspace and its additional usage is shown before you start; local files are not uploaded automatically. The web app is coming soon and does not accept coding tasks or project files today.
Can agents keep working while my computer is off?
Remote agents are in a limited owner rollout. Where enabled, they continue working on ClearFrame after you close the app, including with your computer off, and you return to saved progress and finished files. Runs use a separate workspace, support new projects or public GitHub repositories, and last up to two hours.
What is the Self-Host workflow?
Self-Host is an opt-in capability, currently validated on macOS, that lets ClearFrame work on its own source: edit, run tests, verify the installed beta, then promote and resume. A failed evaluation holds the next automatic step, and a promotion that fails startup, renderer health or fresh-activity checks can restore the previous build.
Still deciding?
The comparison page puts these capabilities next to Cursor, Claude Code and Codex with sources. The pricing page covers what is free and how managed usage works. If your question is not here, email support@clearframecode.com and it will be added.
Try it before you decide.
ClearFrame is free to start. Run a real task and review the changes before you spend anything.
