Your subscriptions, together
ClearFrame connects both ChatGPT and Claude subscriptions in one workspace, alongside native Claude and Gemini API access. You are not choosing a vendor when you choose the workspace.
Comparison
A sourced, capability-by-capability comparison of ClearFrame, Cursor, Claude Code and Codex — including the rows where another tool is the better fit.
Last updated
As of September 28, 2026, ClearFrame, Cursor, Claude Code and Codex are all capable agentic coding tools, and they make different trade-offs. ClearFrame is built around two of them: choosing the AI you already pay for, and keeping a reversible way back when an agent changes your files. The table below compares the capabilities each product documents, with the vendor documentation each claim rests on listed underneath.
This page is written to be checkable rather than persuasive. Every row names a capability that a vendor documents, and the note beneath the table links the documentation each claim is based on. Where a product does something differently rather than worse, the row says so.
| Capability | ClearFrame | Cursor | Claude Code | Codex |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Choose your AI | Connects both ChatGPT and Claude subscriptions in one workspace, connects Claude and Gemini APIs natively, and ships a 40-integration provider catalog. | Selected providers through its own model set; API keys rather than subscription sign-in. | Claude-focused; also supports gateways and cloud deployments. | ChatGPT subscriptions only; custom providers use the OpenAI Responses protocol. |
| Recover files without Git | Built-in snapshots independent of Git, covering manual and agent edits. | Local checkpoints over agent changes. | Checkpoint rewind over its tracked file edits. | Git-based recovery, so review requires a Git repository. |
| Bound autonomous usage | Token ceilings and stops at selected percentages of managed-plan usage. | Monthly on-demand spend limits. | API dollar budget. | Goal token budget. |
| Keep project instructions between tasks | Inspectable Memory panel carried between tasks. | Project rules. | CLAUDE.md and memory. | AGENTS.md instructions. |
| Extend agents with skills & tools | Store, skills and MCP. | Plugins and MCP. | Plugins and MCP. | Plugins and MCP. |
Three differences come up most often when people compare these tools.
ClearFrame connects both ChatGPT and Claude subscriptions in one workspace, alongside native Claude and Gemini API access. You are not choosing a vendor when you choose the workspace.
Eligible project files are snapshotted before a task first uses a tool, independently of Git. Restoring selected files saves a "Before undo" checkpoint, so a project that is not yet version controlled is still recoverable.
Token ceilings and stops at selected percentages of managed-plan usage bound unattended work before it starts, rather than reporting the cost afterwards.
If you already pay for both a ChatGPT and a Claude subscription and want to use them from one place, ClearFrame's desktop app is the direct fit. If you want to bound unattended work before it runs, the Active panel's token and percentage stops are the relevant feature. If you mostly want a review surface over a Git repository, Codex's Git-based review is already close to that model, and ClearFrame's advantage is recovery for repositories that are not under version control yet.
The honest summary: these tools overlap heavily, and the difference that matters is which constraint you feel most. ClearFrame optimises for provider freedom and reversibility. Try it with the FAQ open, and check the docs for what the first task looks like.
Download ClearFrame, connect the providers you already pay for, and run a real task in an isolated workspace.
